Pairing a Ledger with Phantom gives you Phantom’s easy app with the keys kept on the Ledger. Phantom shows the transaction; nothing moves until you approve it on the device.

What you need

  • A Ledger, bought from the official store, set up with its recovery phrase written on paper.
  • Ledger Live (the Ledger desktop app).
  • The Phantom browser extension. The steps below use the desktop extension.

1. Install the Solana app on the Ledger

  1. Connect and unlock the Ledger.
  2. In Ledger Live, open My Ledger, find Solana and click Install.
  3. Close Ledger Live when it’s done (it can block other apps from talking to the device).

2. Connect it to Phantom

  1. On the Ledger, open the Solana app.
  2. In Phantom, open the account menu → Add / Connect Wallet → Connect Hardware Wallet.
  3. Choose your Ledger, allow the browser connection, and pick the account(s) to add.

Your Ledger account now appears in Phantom with a hardware-wallet badge. Its address is different from your existing Phantom accounts: it’s derived from the Ledger’s recovery phrase.

3. Move SOL onto it

Send a small amount to the Ledger account first, then send a small amount out of it (approving on the device) to prove the whole loop works. Then move the rest.

Blind signing

Some Solana transactions (many swaps and app interactions) can’t be fully shown on the Ledger’s screen. The Solana app will refuse them unless blind signing is turned on in the Solana app’s settings on the device.

  • Plain SOL transfers don’t need it.
  • Turn it on only when you need it, and only for sites you trust; turn it off afterwards. With blind signing you’re approving something you can’t read on the device.
